Abigail Rowe is a 16 year old Sophomore at Brandon High School. She came out as bisexual in November of 2020 and started Abigail's Pride in April of 2021. She Started Abigail's Pride as a way to create a safer and happier environment for LGBTQ+ youth in her community and the surrounding areas!
Abigail Rowe started Abigail's Pride after a conversation with her mom about not having a pride festival anywhere near her. Beth Rowe (Abigail's mom) said "So why don't you plan one" and the rest is history. Abigail began working with Co-Director, Marianne Sherrod to plan the first pride event in Ortonville Michigan. Shortly after Abigail's Pride became a non-profit organization and started working with schools and youth organizations all around Michigan.
Our mission is to create a safe, happy, and healthy environment for LGBTQ+ youth and families. We are currently planning a Pride Festival in Ortonville Michigan June 4th, 2022. In the future we hope to bring Abigail's Pride events all over the state and continue to work with local schools to educate people about acceptance and inclusivity. We hope to eventually be able to provide counseling services for youth and families who are struggling with issues related to gender identity and sexual orientation.
